What is the legal process behind getting a "common" name? I like Mark, Johnny, and Trumpbert as names to change to. Mine as Stephen is too uncommon and have troubles with getting it known as a badge or ID card. Can you provide directions for how it changes to common ones? Can I change my records from school with this?

I am 32 now. Thank you. I live in the U.S. I live in Minnesota.

Stephen is a very common name! Trumpbert is so odd that no one will know how to say it, much less care.

To change your name you need to hire an attorney that does this.

You can always petition the court...not sure but probably the municipal court...in your city for a change of name.

But I must have known 15 people named Stephen, Steve or Steven in my life. Even my best man was name Stephen. It is a common name....like mine; Richard.
