In a retail pharmacy, not much more than minumum wage. In a hospital, in this area (Kentucky) I've worked as a pharmacy tech for almost 15 years and I only make $15/hour. It's a fun job (in the hospital), but you're never going to get rich doing it. Plus, you have to work weekends and holidays. People always get sick.

The retail chains generally pay the least for inexperienced tech's in this area (SW Washington). Usually they start around 12-15$ an hour. I have heard experienced techs are getting about 16-17$ at some. Retail involves a lot of weekends and nights for the rookies. Getting your foot in the door is key. When you are checking places out talk to the technicians and get their input. (I.E. does the chain tends to cut hours (creating a more stressful environment) or is there a chance of getting more hours, etc.)

Hospitals and HMO's (I.E. Kaiser, Group Health) pay a little more starting out (15-16$/hour around here). The hours can generally be a little worse in a hospital setting but a lot of hospitals supplement the worse hours via more pay.

Good luck!
