Yep, here's a page with a post card pic from, Feb 19, 1909 when it ran dry. I believe the cause was an ice jam, upriver.

In 1969 they did a water survey and actually stopped the flow of the water, now the actual river bed was not dry, but the Amercian "falls" did stop flowing. All that was left was the limestone beneath the falls that you never see.

Actually we turn them off every Monday from 3 am to 5 am to clean underneath. I'll send you a picture.
