The south has always been typically more conservative. The south was actually predominantly Democrat before the civil rights movement, these were called the Dixiecrats. Now the Republicans are more interested with lessened government interference in economic matters, and many Southerners agree with these statements. In the north the population is more condensed into cities, which tends to promote more liberal ideals, while in the south things are typically more spread out, which lends itself to more conservative thinking

It's sort of funny. For the longest time, the South was heavily in favor of the Democratic Party. This goes all the way back to the Civil War, when the two parties were almost opposite in ideals than what they are now. The Republicans back then were the Big Government party, and wanted to tax the South for alot of stuff only the North used. And back then the South was for states' rights and small government! And of course they were pro-slavery.
Anyway, the Democrat South had its big change of heart in the mid-1960's with the Civil Rights movement. The democrats, being the more liberal of the two parties, wanted integration and equal rights for blacks, while the Repubs pretty much wanted to keep theings the way they were. This is when the South converted to the GOP and they have been loyal to them ever since.

The most drastic example of why this unfit sub-race fits into the Republican Party is literally a matter of life and death. The Republicans weaseled out of fighting in Vietnam, and the spineless rednecks were proud to die taking a rich kid's place. Real Americans wouldn't put up with that.
