Mine comes in three pieces and is a 9 foot tall tree. So the male plug that comes off of the very top section of the tree hooks into the male/female plug in the middle. You have to make sure that you have the sections lined up so that the cord reaches to the center section plug. That middle section plug has both the male and female connections and the male connects to the last section or base of the tree. The cord that hangs from there is what I connect into the timer at the wall plug. I have to leave the switch connected to the tree cord in the on position for the timer to work properly. Hope this helps.
