I'm sure this person has no reason to hate you. You could try talking to the person to get a feel of what their attitude is towards you then you can take it from there.

do you have their screename? just start talking to them litle by little on AIM and you will become more comfotable. just be totally natural. then say hi to him when you say him, and you can slowly work towards become more than friends. if he knows the real you first, he won't hat eyou.
