it seems that he has so much potential, but he still hasn't become that dominant force like an ovechkin or kovalchuk. will he ever? or will he be like another kovalev (i don't mean that disrespectfully to kovalev)?

Right now he's not because of his style of play. He's more of a passer, and relies on teammates more. Ovechkin and Kovalchuk are more "do-it-self" kind of players. He can become a very good player, better than he is right now, by harnessing ALL of his skills. He's very similar to Crosby, in the way that they're both pass-first guys, and patient with the puck. So yes, I think he can eventually become a great, great player.

I disagree with Countpetez--Datsyuk is not a superstar. Yes,the Wings made the playoffs last season but lost in the first round because of Datsyuk and Hetterburg to name a few. Datsyuk is great all season long then goes silent in the playoffs. I forget how many playoff games he's been in, like 13 or so and has never scored in the playoffs. If that doesn't change he will never be a superstar. That said, he does have the potential to be one.

I agree Datsyuk is a great player. I don't think everyone in the NHL respects his moves like they should. I don't think hes at the superstar level yet but, he will have that breakout season. I met him at the mall, and he was really nice guy. Very humble and a great teammate who will make it to the Hall.
