Well, I'm only 17, I'm not selling a house or anything ( Duh. ) But there is this family that moved in my neighborhood and they're black. The houses are really expensive and I was just wondering will that one family bring down the whole neighborhood value? Because I've seen this happen before..Green Island Hills..yeah no one wants to move over there anymore..Why do they have to ruin such good, influential and well mannered neighborhoods?

Edit: I did ask this in the Business section, but I think only black people were answering the question, since the answers were a little race-biased.

Having a black family in your neighborhood will not bring anyone's neighborhood value down. Sadly enough, usually when a black family moves in, you will find out who the biggest bigot is first. Because they will be the first to leave. By you being 17 years old, you have a chance to educate yourself and not fall prey to ignorance. Sadly enough, these people are the first to enter the church on Sundays. Why would anyone think that God would allow anyone into Heaven that does not love their brother and sister(regardless of the skin color)? Arm yourself with knowledge before you buy into stereotypes that have been passed down from generation to generation. After all, where you will spend eternity depends on you.

Why in the world would you think that? If a black family has the money to move into YOUR neighborhood ,why shouldn't they, they let your family in didn't they? How in the world would that bring the property values down? Does your family wear those WHITE SHEETS? Come on get past all that ....it's the year 2006. You stop thinking like that now at age 17 and maybe your generation can stop other people from thinking that way in the future.

I can tell you are only 17 and do not have many life experiences from your question, so I'm going to go real easy on you. Just picture yourself as the new family of different color from the rest of the families on the block. How would you feel if everyone was talking about moving because of the color of your siblings and parents skin? Can you picture walking down the street and having no one wave to you or smile? What about instead of a house-warming party or a neighbor bringing cookies, you get a burned cross in your yard. This is what it is like to be the minority sometimes. The really crazy thing is biologically we are all created the same. I myself did not realize how prejudiced people were until I moved to a Texas border city from California. Some people really hate me because I'm white. They push ahead of me in line at the store and give me dirty looks all the time because I am a different color than the majority of the population here. I wish you could have this learning lesson because you really need it. Hopefully, you will go on to college and you were learn that we are all the same and to treat people the way YOU would like to be treated.

It's people like u that bring down the value of a neighborhood. That's probably 1 of the most arogant and racist comments I've eva heard of. That's the problem with society these days, cuz of people like u r oblivious to things beyond race. just cuz sum1 is black or white or asian or iraqi ect doesn't make them better or worse than ne one else it should b character which u obviuosly have none of. Try to think these things over or think before u say ne thing or in this case before u write!!!!!!!!

I don't really know, but every place I move to they all end up moving out. Maybe it's cause I'm white and build hot rods? It's a foolish notion, and it's myths like these that impede our progress as a society.

No, it won't bring down the value, but if you and your family move out, I'm sure the values will go up for everyone else.

Only if your values come down.I can understand that some of the answers were race-biased because you made a racist remark.

I wonder why...

You need to check your brain cells and learn to love people.

No. One black family will not bring down the neighborhood.

However, one bigotted and racist family will bring down the neighborhood.

BTW, I'm caucasian.
