Its an old motherboard, should I use (4) 256mb or (2) 512mb ram? I just found that it only supports 1 gig, so, which would be the best bet? Is it safer to do (4) 256s because its about 5 years old?

I know this one has 4 slots, and I know it can support 1gig. So I assume that 256 works...which means 512 would work...but I don't for sure...

search the web for info about your mb; if it works with things like pc2100 or pc2700 (not pc133 or pc100), get two 512s; otherwise you need to get different types of ram.

If it won't supporrt 512s, it probably won't support 256s either; so it will probably work with pc2100. Most motherboards do not have 4 slots, but have 2 or 3.

512MB DIMMs should work on a five year old board. Contact the motherboard manufacturer for specific info. You need to know what type of RAM you need beyond just the capacity.

I would use the two 512s, holds the same amount of memory and you probably won't have to mess with the wiring of the board as much.

2 512's. Less work when troubleshooting if you get a bad chip, hey, it happens.

I would go for the 4X256MB this will make for a smoother Ram Flow considering your MoBo is not young.
