I have to agree with you because the Pogues are my favourite group and Fairy tale in New York is according to me their best song ever Actually, my father likes this group, so I discovered this song when I was a kid and I didn't know it was a Christmas song because I'm not an English native speaker, but I've always loved it. Each time I listen to it, I'm so moved. Yes, it's definitely the best Christmas song ever

Yes you are right. It is the best christmas song. I always love hearing it come on at christmas time. I dont think anyone will ever tire of it. It is such a lovely story too. It was only a few years ago that I realised that the song is done in 3 different stages. When they were young and first met, in their mid years and then when they are old. I love Shane McGowen. Fantastic singer.

I'm quite partial to the old crooners christmas songs and enjoy listening to Bing Corosby and Frank Sinatra whilst I'm putting the decorations up.But, Fairy Tale of New York is one of my favourite Chirstmas songs, so much different than the manufactured love songs you get these days. I Love the 'you scumbag you maggot, you cheap lousy ******' line :-)

Yes, its one of my favourites, because its not cheesey like most christmas songs. The only other one I like is The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End). Apart from those two, all the others are cheesey pop songs which don't deserve to be played.

Probably the best christmas song that had some relevance to christmas, but if you are talking number 1s at christmas then it has to be Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". Christmas number 1 1975 and 1991.

I think it's fantastic. It reminds me of Christmasses at my boyfriend's parents/ aunts/ distant relatives, as it ALWAYS seems 2 be playing when I'm with them. They have an American-Irish heritage (we are in England), & it just seems really fitting, though not in a nicey nicey way.
I thought I was the only 1 in the family 2 have noticed this, so I was quite shocked (in a good way), when the DJ played it as the last song at his brother's wedding reception, in July!

It could be, yes, I do love to hear it. Although I also have a soft spot for Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses (I imagine that shows my age!).
