Ok he's not a cat or a dog, so it's not obvious by looking at him.

What's a schmoo?

The Jeep is supposed to be a creature from another dimensional world, which is why he has the powers he has, such as being able to teleport (fade out somewhere, and fade in somewhere else) and to tell the future.

The rare African Whiffle Hen was another creature from Popeye. Rubbing her head brought a person luck. When Popeye was first introduced, he was shot fifteen times in the chest at point blank range, by Jack Snork, who wanted revenge on Castor Oyl (Olive's brother) for using the luck of the Whiffle Hen to break the bank at the casino on Dice Island. Popeye rubbed the head of the Whiffle Hen all night long and reappeared in the morning to beat Snork. So Popeye's toughness, his abilty to survive any number of beatings (not necessarily his strength) comes from a 'magical' source, the Whiffle Hen, not the spinach.

The schmoo (I know you didn't ask about schmoos, but I suspect that they and the jeep are related) is a creature from the Li'l Abner comic strip that reproduced like crazy, and loved to be eaten. When fried, they tasted like chicken, when broiled they tasted like steak. They laid a dozen eggs and two quarts of milk each morning. They had no bones and their whiskers made excellent toothpicks. All you had to do was look hungrily at one, and it would gladly lay down and die for you (so you could eat it.)
I think they divided by fission like bacteria, so that the cartoonist (Al Capp) didn't have to deal with schmoo sex.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if they were all real...?
