My daughter bought 3 male gerbils.

Two of them had litters, now we have 11 gerbils.

She separated the mothers into separate cages, then because the lone male looked 'so lonely', she put one of the females in with it--now we have 18 gerbils.

Next time, I think I will buy her a pet rock...

Hi, I do have. actually I have 2, male and feale gerbil... I have them since they where about 6 months.
They are very easy to take care, they don´t need too much of your time.
they use to be very active and playful nore than a hamster.

I´ve been reading and learning about gerbils as pets at the web.

good luck

Did you check out the web?

I had bred these at one time, they are very easy to care for. These were not my "main" love to breed though....
They are family oriented. The male and female both raising the young. Very easy to sex. They eat grain. Water they need to compensate for the grain. Grain you can buy at the pet shop for a huge price or go to the feed store and buy in bulk.
Do not let them sit in water though. These are REAL easy to maintain! Great pet! Do not use cedar bedding for any of the caged rodents.
Hope this helps?
