Why is it that some people--otherwise attractive, normal people--don't seem to care whatsoever about the current style? They seem to be "released" from fashion, as in, they don't care if what they are wearing is from 12 years ago, and they are quite comfortable that way. If I wore the same thing, I'd feel so self-conscious, I couldn't stop thinking about my clothes all day! I'm not talking about being completely "up-to-the-moment" either, I just mean relatively with the current style. I guess I'm asking because I kind of envy that kind of freedom from the dictates of fashion and I just wonder what mentality these people have?

I think those people realize that clothes don't make or break who they are. They are truly secure in the knowledge of who they are and are perfectly happy inside their own skin. They are in tune with themselves and can celebrate their own intrinsic value. They simply realize that real people accept you for who you are, not for what you wear. Clothes are a necessary accessory. No more, no less.

I think it's because some people are bohemians, artists or other unconventional people who really don't care what other people think.
People who follow fashion trends do it to fit in with a group of people, and that's something artists don't care about. Artists are usually different than most people. They probably never fit in with the cool kids, and they really don't care. They live for the art they create, that gives them the greatest pleasure in life, not wearing the hippest clothes.
They just have a different perspective on life than you do. If we were all the same, the world would be too boring wouldn't it?

Well, I might be one of those people. I typically wear old comfy jeans and casual tops and Skechers or Chuck Taylors and I frequently forgo makeup. I keep my hair very short so I don't have to waste time trying to decide how to style it. My two sisters are very fashion conscious and try to give me pointers, but basically, I don't have the time or inclination to worry about such things. I would rather spend my time thinking about school or work or my kids.

One day they just realize they aren't going to live by the dictates of fashion designers, cultural snobs and tastemakers and simply cease to care what's 'in'.

Some people are mature enough to understand that clothes or any other matrerial things have nothing to do with who you are. Its your actions toward other people that determine what kind of person you are , not what you wear.

Because they realize fashion is all about fads and trends and has no real meaning in the living of a good life.

Well, it's just what you said in your question. It's a matter of being comfortable with what you're wearing, wearing what you like, and not caring what people think.

You seem to be very superficial, overly materialistic and shallow. Oh, and I also don't care what you think. Thank You for Calling. Goodbye.
