Stop giving them money! If they want you for more than just the loot, they will prove themselves in the long run.
Sounds like a pimp, prostitute relationship to me.

Well, if it isn't a large amount, just don't loan anymore. If it is a large amount, you have several options. Small claims court but the friendship is going to be pretty much over. If you do want to maintain the relationship, then talk about a way to work through the debt payments. if they won't work with you, then maybe the relationship needs to end...

You've basically got two choices.
1. Take them to small claims court. Have all your facts and records together and any witnesses who know about the loans you made and any promises made to pay them back.
2. Chalk it up as a loss and move on. If they had the money to pay it back, they probably would have, although there are some people who have the money and just seem to act like you just owed them the money and how dare you ask for it back (I know this is how my youngest daughter is). I just don't loan her any more money and let it go. If these people are just friends....you have to decide if their friendship is worth more than the money they owe you.

You chalk it up to a "lesson in life" and you never and I mean, NEVER, loan them another penny or another thing. If they ask, you can reference what happened in the past: "remember that last loan I made to you that you never paid back? I'm sorry, I can't loan you anything at all." You can maintain the relationship if you want, just keep your wallet closed. Godloveya.

A good friend once stiffed me on a loan I gave him. I did remain friends but I distanced myself somewhat. Unexpectedly he paid me--7 years later.

Whenever you loan people money, always do it with the knowledge that it will never be paid back
