If you mean a SHIFT to the left of the supply curve rather than a contraction ALONG the supply curve then the following will cause a reduction in supply:
A bad harvest of tobacco plants.
A reduction in the number of suppliers of cigarettes.
A fall in expected future prices will perhaps mean companies will switch production to something more lucrative in favour of producing cigarettes.
That's all I can think of at the moment, hope to have been of help.

I presume you mean something that would cause a reduction or shift in supply?
A war, military co in a major export of tobacco
some strange pest or disease wipes out the crop
freak weather
peasants revolt against harvesting it
A tax imposed by a government would only change supply if it was imposed on the exporting one, ie a ports charge... not a tax on the consuming country, this would reduce demand for the product.

Anyone who mentioned the word 'demand' or 'health' or anything like that are wrong.
They would not shift the supply function. They would shift the quantity supplied because people would not buy them, they would not change the amount the companies would want to and could supply at any given price.
- Tax is one
- Anything effecting the amount that could be supplied (weather erodes harvest, government buying out tobacco farmers, anything effecting productivity, protesters burning tobacco crops)
You get the idea. Praise the few people who got this

..Tobacco companies don't care about people getting Cancer and so on from smoking or else there wouldn't be cigarettes or any tobacco products..
bad tobacco crops . and the cost of them are getting higher.not just the tax on them the over all price.
Not smoking in public places and the laws against where they smoke at work have changed also. there are in some companies smoking only sections which are usually further away from the work buildings. people don't like walking further especially in bad weather.
