Having watched a few of his films i am absolutely astounded, some of the moves he pulls of for a 72 year old man are amazing convincing beautiful women 50 years his junior to fall in love with him, and wearing a corrugated corset to hold in his ample man boobs and 8 bellies yet with out running around or moving any limbs he can knock the stuffing out of 6foot4 martial arts experts. If he doesnt get an award for this its shocking.

I think back in the day he did some great films. Nowadays those martial arts-action flicks have gone out of fashion and he's left doing low budget films financed by small companies- and lots of them!
However, often it's refreshing to watch a lower budget film and recapture the thrills and spills that made us fall in love with the action genre years ago.
He hasn't won an oscar because he isn't exactly oscar material, nor is Van Damme, Vin Diesel, or Schwarznegger- however they have great entertainment value. Oscar films are for a different demographic, Seagal films are just a bit of fun.

As you've mentioned, I do love the way his "Martial Arts" skills are limited to him waving his arm from side to side rapidly. This seems to fell even the most deadly opponant.
He should at least get an award for costume design, although I'm not sure whether I'd award it for his "mystical-buddist-nero-collar" outfits, or his "I totally support the native americans" feather and leather combos !

Having read some of the answers, you would believe that steven can't act, and he isn't very good. But bear this in mind. Titanic won 11 oscars and that film was utter crap (pardon my french). I think it's simply a case of "if your face doesn't fit"

All very true and tragically funny, but I think that the thing that sunk his Oscar chances was his run (when he was still capable of doing that!). He had the most pathetic run ever, it looked like he was suffering from some deadly disease and was constipated at the same time, it was so laughable that it was fascinating to watch unlike any other part of his movies!

I agree, its a travesty ! Why "belly of the beast" demands a best picture Oscar for the way he turns into a younger, different coloured man during some fight scenes!

Because he's a joke in Hollywood. Do you know that he has a script that he wants made in to a movie about the life of Michael Jackson.....nothing wrong with that except that he will only sell the script to a studio if they agree to let HIM star as Jackson in the movie. What a nut job.

hes just so boring, when you hear him speak in films theres no spark or sex appeal. The only good bits in his films are the martial arts.

Because he is the single-most annoying actor ever to breathe the same oxygen as other Hollywood stars...his movies are tasteless, cheesy, and a physical pain to watch.

I really have no idea... if he has ever been to one and got nomanated high enough then he like probally screwed up while he was talking or something like that.
