I think Avast...

Kaspersky I would have to say has the best detection rates...

But there are two things you want to be concerned about when listing the best.. Main things are free and paid...

Avast and AVG are like almost, the best in free...

Kaspersky and NOD32 are very good for paid.. Expensive tho...

Norton and MacAffee slows down your computer like a **** on the summer road... Or like a snail with salt.. But Macaffe is better then Norton..

Norton 2007 is something you don't want to mess with, once you install it its in your computer forever unless you format it... Crazy ****, not even its own uninstaller can remove it..

Take a look..

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-36,GGGL:en&q=Best+antivirus

But also be concerned by its price, speed, user interface, customability.. Etc... But virus detection is very important, so is heuristics ... Along with removing them... and prevention..

Good luck to you..

You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

I prefer avg free. I have used it for quite some time now and have never had a problem. It is low on cpu...which is more than I can say for norten's or McAfee.

Norton tends to be a system (and HD hog).

Try McAfee.
