How do I make elementary school project for grasping "hand" made from scrap material?

Must be very basic- able to grasp and release light object- made from basic scrap material- elementary grade level science project. Need answers in a hurry!!!!

Take an old newspaper and make some paste from flour and water,wrap this around a couple of pinch clothes ping. form it to look like a hand and be sure the tips of the pins are out so you can grasp something with them . Good luck. Oh, don't make this too thick and it will dry over night. If not us a hair dryer on it.
