I'm otherwise perfect, with just this one little vice which I would dearly like to lose.

Thanks all. Already some great answers. By the way, doesn't asking a question here count as creativity? Surely creativity can be interrogative.

You should stop biting one nail for one week. Then go on to another nail and then go on and on until you have finished all your nails.

One way I know works, rub garlic on you finger nails. But I think I have a better answer for you, this is how I did it ... I thought of how nice it would be to have nails, I mad the pleasure greater than the pain. I would look at my nails ever day and could see that I was getting closer and closer to finally having nails. As your nails get longer you will still have the urge to bit but as soon as your mouth feels that your fingers have nails it will quickly scare you from destroying what you've been working on. Also your nails will be stronger and more beautiful than fake ones because they have become thicker and thicker with every bite. Good luck and it really is worth having nails, you'll love it.

Put a non-toxic chemical on your fingernails so that when you want to bite them it will taste very bad; this will discourage you from wanting to bite your nails. You can find such non-toxic chemicals that have to do with nail-biting and any Wal-Mart or Eckerd.

Either polish your nails so they will have a bitter taste or get a manicure. They will look so perfect you won't want to mess them up. Plus you won't want to waste your money. Take care.

I used to have the same problem, you can buy this stuff you paint on your nails from boots (UK) or probably any other chemist which tastes rough when you try to bite them. That should help it.
