Try practicing in an empty parking lot, or on streets that aren't busy. Something I had to realize before I stopped being afraid of driving is that I was in control of the car. I wasn't just trying to guide the huge thing and keep it from going out of control. So remember, YOU are in control! You can make the car stop, or go, or do whatever, at any time that you want!

Sometimes I would talk to myself and reassure myself that yes, I did make a mistake just now, but nobody got hurt, and everything's okay. Whoever is driving with you to help you learn and practice will probably understand if you tell them ahead of time that you're scared, and talking to yourself might help.

If the person who is driving with you to help you learn is very critical of you and harsh with you, then that's probably not helping. If that's the case, then try to find someone else that would be willing to help you? Someone calm and who won't yell at you if you make a mistake would be good!

Make small goals and really congratulate yourself when you accomplish them. Decide that you're going to drive around the block once, and then do it. Once you've done that, tell yourself how awesome it is that you could do it! Be proud of yourself! Then, next time, maybe you can drive around the block twice, or go down the road a little ways and then turn around and come back, etc.

You can do it! :) I believe in you, and you should believe in yourself!

The more you practise the better you will feel about driving. It is just like anything else is feels uncomfortable at first. I think that being overly cautious just shows that you are a very conscientious person. Good luck

Keep the fear. By the time you're 25 more of your friends will have died in motor cars than anything else.

hmmm, here's a short but radical suggestion: go off roading with a truck. it's fun and you will learn to control your machine, all you need is confidence.
