I much profer British humor compared to the Americans, Infact I don't believe I have laughed at any american sit coms. Ok there is one exception and that is Kurb Your Enthusiasm.

With British Sitcoms like the classics and some of our modern Sitcoms, Extras, For me some of Little Britains / Cathrine Tate sketches, My Family, Phoinex nights and Road to Know where
and American comedies including the modern day ones.

Comparing the styles which do you think are better at making people laugh?

Quality / Watchable American Comedy:
- Home Improvement

British humour is funnier without a doubt Road to Nowhere, Cathy Tate, Red Dwarf, Little Britain and lots of the older 70's and 80's shows are true British comedy. My Family is actually done by an American if I remember correctly and, although quite British, it shows. Peter Kay is very much like the old school British comedians e.g. Les Dawson, Freddie Star.
I do like some of the American comedies such as Home Improvement, 8 Simple Rules but I much prefer British stuff.
I think that British humour is based quite a bit on slap-stick humour e.g Monty Python, Fawlty Towers Red Dwarf. I also like the alternative comedy from Eddie Izzard.

Older British sitcoms are the best (Only Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers, Some Mothers Do Ave Em) but modern American is much better than modern British (compare Frasier for example with My Family, which is dire) but overall old British comedy wins.

I personally have no real preference.

Depending on what mood I'm in I can watch the classic British stuff:

The Carry On films
Only Fools And Horses
Til Death Us Do Part
Red Dwarf

Though I can also watch a lot of thew American stuff:

Will And Grace
Roseanne
Friends (when I'm p*ssed enough)

It depends if I'm in the mood for subtle innuendo or in your face smut.

You decide for yourselves which one is the British comedy and which one is the American comedy.

I watch American shows like Friends, 8 Simple Rules and Less that Perfect and find myself taking in the words without ever laughing. I enjoy the shows but see them as short stories rather than comedies.

I like shows like Red Dwarf, Are you being Served, Allo Allo, It Ain't half hot mum etc

So I'll say British comedy.

The Simpsons is proberly the only really good American comedy and it's a cartoon!! lol

However the simpsons lacked quality in the last 2-3 years, it's picking up again though.

Anyways, British comedy is my answer.

British comedy all the way! up there are the greats: fawlty towers, open all hours, only fools and horses, father ted, gimme gimme gimme, red dwarf, dinnerladies, my family, porridge, spaced, the young ones, vicar of dibley, absolutely fabulous, allo allo, are you being served?, blackadder, the brittas empire, butterflies, dads army, the good life, hi-de-hi, keeping up appearances, men behaving badly, two pints of lager and a packet of crisps, waiting for god, and probably some more I've forgotten. you can't beat a good sexual innuendo lol.

American comedy normally sucks apart from the great work of cartoonists and the like. the humour otherwise isn't very funny, they just can't seem to get a good sitcom together. good American comedy: family guy, the Simpson's, futurama, robotchicken, maybe more, but I'm still searching.

I think the British have a different sense of humor than us Americans. That said I don't think that makes your humor better than ours. It's what you are used to, what you grew up with. There are a lot of American comedies I love. I have only seen a few British comedies, whatever they show on PBS. I don't have access to the BBC. Some of the British comedies I've seen, I like, others I don't. I've never been of fan of Monty Python. But I love Chef! and Keeping Up Appearances.

People have different senses of humor, which means that different people laugh at different things and I like to laugh a lot in my opinion.I like both American and British comedies,I loved Happy Days back in the day and I equally like Only fools and horses just as much.

It's a shame that 'The Simpsons' has gone down in comedic quality though.Hopefully the movie will be as good as the older episodes.
