I have a few "ram" related questions. Please help.?

Question

1. If I have 4 slots, should I put four 256mb or two 512mb ram? (Its and older motherboard, so it doesnt have the dual ram ability.)
a. Why?

2. I have a 1.8 pentium 4. I also have a motherboard that can hold a max of 2 gigs of ram. If I install 1 gig worth, would it run alot fast then 512? Or, because its a 1.8 itll run about the same?

3. What do the numbers mean? 4 - 4 - 8, 3 - 3 - 8 ...etc.
What do each represent, and what is better, higher or lower number?

The number sets I found when I ran CPU-z. Ive seen them before, and Ive seen people talk about them, but I dont know what they mean. Here is what the numbers are next to...

RAS# to CAS# - 4
RAS# Precharge - 4
Tras - 8

And the other numbers are for another ram piece.

if you have the choice use two 512 so you have future expansion options (also usually cheaper than four 256s).

It will run significantly faster in some cases with the 1GB (depends on what application you are running).

I don't understand your last question. Where are you finding these number sets?

Two 512Mb RAM cards are more reliable and better quality than four 256Mb ones but there isn't much difference.

1Gb or RAM would work much faster than a 512Mb RAM card.

I don't know what those numbers mean.

If you have 1Gb RAM and follow these tips, your computer will be very very fast. 512Mb would still be faster with these tips, but of course 1Gb RAM is better.
