No, not unless they actually investigate the reports to see which ones are unfounded and which ones are legit. I've been reporting, I think one guy, who's been impersonating at least three or four people. How would Yahoo know anything about it unless someone tells them? With your way, even the person being impersonated would lose points for reporting it. Stuff like that shouldn't happen. If Yahoo investigated these reports, there wouldn't be a problem, so we wouldn't need a plan. The whole reason reporting gets out of hand is because the offenders know Yahoo isn't investigating reports, so they can get away with it.

Reporting needs to continue. There are to many idiots out there that take up space with stupid stuf,f like the one that says you can make a gazillion dollars on line, no scams, and all you have to do is send that person ( they change their name everytime they post ) money and they will tell you how. We also have the Retard guy who is not funny and sometimes sick, the shira-z character who only does insults. That is beyond free speech. If I want to be insulted, I will go to an electronics or a computer store and talk to a sales person. As for points, who really cares about them? It's not as if they mean anything.

Your observation of "out of hand" reporting is astute, and makes one wonder how the community guidelines can often be so skewed. I have yet to be a participant on any board, anywhere, where this was not an ongoing issue and concern, though. It appears to be part of the nature of the beast. Your suggestion may not fly with the "powers that be", but, I for one would readily support it.
I have reported blatant racism and remarks I felt were advocating violence. I have posted answers that, frankly, I expected to have removed, but weren't. I have been cited for violations that had absolutely nothing to do with the content of my comments, even remotely. I guess it all depends on who is around, on any given day, on either side of the cyber-policing. Is it fair? Sometimes. Is that normal? Apparently. I think all anyone can do is to remain true and honest to their own beliefs and opinions, and hope for the best.

I laugh at it. I meant really what do those points do? If you get like, 4000 points do you get a cookie? People on this site change names and say the crappiest things just to get a rise out of others, and even more than that jump out to report anyone. I really don't care if people report me for giving an answer that they don't like. It's my answer and I won't change just cause some jerk doesn't agree with me.

I fail to see how some one could stoop so low to report some one for any thing they say. As is that not infringing on their 1st amendment right to free speech, but, I suppose some crawly little worms feel good and get their jollies off by being cowardly and sneaky, I personally think they need their a,, kicked,

Sounds good to me.... And an extra 100pts for false reporting.... which no one would have to worry about.... Yahoo *never* checks as far as I can tell.

Reporting should be discontinued. If people do not like free speech and ideas, whatever they may be, then don't come to this site.
Also remember many are an attempt to be humorous, and some say things just to start an argument.
Report the reporters for stifling free speech.

Great idea! But If you actually report someone and they are a left winger they will not be deleted. So only conservatives would be protected by this rule. Yahoo would not stand for that!

Well people don't take life to serious, none of us get out of it alive anyway. With all the junk on t.v. and what your kids hear in school, this board is the least of your or their problems.

Less reporting does NOT encourage the trolls. The trolls do not care, as they will just start a new user ID.
It is the people standing behind their opinions, refusing to change their identity or their beliefs that are getting abused by people who disagree.
Your idea is great.
