Take a set of say, 51 data points of varying values.

Arrange them from least to greatest.

The 26th data point is the mode.

This is different from the median, which is the sum of the data points divided by 51. The median will not necessarily be equal to any of the data points, while the mode, by definition, will. If the distribution is normal, aka a bell curve, the median and the mode will be very close. If the distribution is not a bell curve then the median and the mode may be quite different.

As an illustration, take a room of people and measure all their heights

the mean is the average height
the median is the number exactly in the middle, there are the same number of people taller than this value than there are shorter than this value
the mode is the number that has the most people (ofen this is near the mean but less susceptable to being skewed by having a really tall person in the group.
The average might be 5'8 inches but if there are 5 people who are 5'7 and 4 who are 5'8 and 3 who are 5'6 then the mode is 5'7.

It is the number with the highest frequency; that is the number with the highest occurrence. E.g in the string of numbers 1,1 2, 1 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 4, 3, 2, 2 4, 8, 1, 1, the number 1 appears most, so it is the mode.

mode is the one seen the most often, like 1 5 5 7, mode is five bc it's there twice. i always remembered this by the first two letters in mode are M O, Most Often.
