Are there any studies that caffine effects a baby in utero? When I was pregnant with my son the Dr. said drinking a soda here or there was fine. But, later I was filling out an application for my son to get physical therapy and the woman asked "did you smoke, drink,do drugs,or have caffine during pregnancy?" I said "I had 1 soda every couple of weeks." And she circled YES for the whole question. Drinking a soda during pregnancy is not as bad as smoking, drinking, and doing drugs, right?

I forgot to say I didn't have any for the first 4 months and then I asked the Dr. and he said it was OK.

Caffiene doesn't affect everyone like that. To much is bad, but I had coffee (one cup) every morning with my first child 3 years ago and she is fine. I learned this time around about the caffiene intake rule and you can have up to two cups of coffee a day. I took it out almost compleatly, but a can of soda every couple of weeks is perfectly fine. No!!!! Doc's would rather have a couple of cans of soda over alcohol and drugs and smoking i promise.

My Mom drank caffeine whilst pregnant with me - (this was before any "dangers" were spoken about). She had four or five cups a day. I turned out fine - i'm fairly intelligent, in perfect health, never had anything wrong with me at all... not even a broken bone! lol. The same as my younger sister and brother.
I'm currently pregnant and i drink a couple of cups of coffee a day - i didn't in trimester 1 (because i couldn't stand the smell or taste) .. am 17wks 5 days now and my doc said its fine and everything is fine with baby (knock on wood!).
I'm sure your 1 soda every few weeks did no damage to your son!

Don't worry! Caffeine isn't as bad as those things at all. My doctor (who was a complete health nut and wouldn't even let me eat candy) said that it was OK for me to have one cup of coffee per day while I was pregnant. I've also seen the same thing stated in pregnancy books, and I'm a worrier so I read a lot of those while I was pregnant. I'm sure it's always better to have no caffeine, but you're not really going to hurt your baby with that small of an amount, especially if you only had a soda once every few weeks.

Fact or Myth?
Caffeine causes birth defects: Numerous studies on animals have shown that caffeine can cause birth defects, preterm delivery, reduced fertility, and increase the risk of low-birth weight offspring and other reproductive problems. There have not been any conclusive studies done on humans though. It is still better to play it safe when it comes to inconclusive studies.
Caffeine causes infertility: Some studies have shown a link between high levels of caffeine consumption and delayed conception.
Caffeine causes miscarriages: A few studies have shown that there may be an increase in miscarriages among women who consume more than 300 mg (three 5 oz cups of coffee) a day. Other outcomes include preterm labor and low-birth weight babies. Again, it is safer to avoid caffeine as much as possible.
A pregnant woman should not consume ANY caffeine: Experts and studies have stated that "moderate" levels of caffeine have not been found to have a negative effect on pregnancy. The definition of "moderate" varies anywhere from 150 mg - 300 mg a day.

Of course not! However, it does travel through the placenta and stays in the baby's system a lot longer than it does yours. It is hard on the babies heart and system to be jolted with it. It is known to cause low birth weight babies and has also been proven to decrease chance of conception and may increase the chance of a miscarriage. However, if you only had 1 every few weeks, it should hardly be something to be worried about. It would have been healthier not to for you and the baby, but many women drink more than that and have good size healthy babies. I think it is absolute foolishness to link caffeine and drugs, alcohol, and smoking together in 1 question. I would have been kinda offended if they did that to me too!

My doctor told me that in order to drink "too much" caffeine you would have to have more than 3 cans a day. I mean no diet soda because the sweeteners are bad but I had 1 soda a day and my baby is perfect. Sometimes I swear that things are blown wayyyyy out of proportion.

I avoided all caffeine the first trimester. The rest of my pregnancy I allowed my self to have small amounts much like you. My children are healthy and bright. I don't think you need to worry about the soda having affected you child.

in the 1970's or eighty's some scientists did a learn the place they gave pregnant rats the equivalant of 60 cups of coffee worth of caffeine every day. the outcomes have been damaging- beginning defects and miscarriages. till you drink 60 cups of coffee every day, do not difficulty too lots approximately it. My midwife exhibits no extra desirable than 2 cups or 2 coffee pictures consistent with day. despite the fact that, caffeine motives you to lose calcium. you pick dissimilar calcium once you're pregnant, extremely in the 2nd and 0.33 trimester whilst the bones are hardening.
