buying a 16 ounce costs $9.87
if he makes his own (16 x $.65) it will cost him $10.40

$10.40 - $9.87 = $.53 is what he will save

First, you multiply $0.65 by 16. This will give you how much money it will take for Carlos to make his own trail mix. It would cost him $10.40. Next, you take $10.40 and subtract it with $9.87. You get $0.53. This means Carlos will save 53cents by buying a package of trail mix as opposed to making his own.

Take 9.87 and divide by 16. That will give you the price per ounce. Compare with the .65. Then to double check, multiply .65 by 16. To see what he could make the same size for, cost wise.

yes, he will save .53 cents.... you sovle it by multyplying .65 times 16 (because those are the ounces he wants to yield of trail mix) that gives you a result of 10.40 and if the original trail mix was 9.87 just subtract and you get 53 cents! . voila! :D!

Multiply 16 by $0.65.

Take that number and compare it to $9.87.

If you got a higher number, then it is cheaper to buy the 16 ounce pack. Subtract to get the amount saved.

If you get a lower number, then it is cheaper to make his own. Subtract to get the amount saved.
