Yes, I do. Few people realize the importance of knowing themselves. Interestingly (and despite the fact I'm in behavioral sciences field myself), psychology and psychiatry would have you believe you're in need of a professional to get to know yourself properly--not so fast, say I!. Religion has a vested interest (mainly power and authority) in having you believe you need clerics or at least moral authorities to tell you what's right and wrong. At present, I believe that the only field that tries to empower you without necessarily making you feel like you need someone else is philosophy. Ironically, of all 3 fields mentioned, it's philosophy that, despite a theoretical ability one has of making use of it independently, might require an authority because it can be sooo abstract and difficult to understand at times!

I think we've met!! In all seriousness, I feel that only over the past couple of years have I really got to know myself, what makes me tick and how to handle situations. I'm 30 in March. I've found that my 20s have all been about discovering who I am!

Self-awareness is a human quality that can be mindfully developed. But there is 'knowing' and there is knowing. To some extent we only know our limits and learn our true abilities through circumstance and the right set of opportunities.

I know what I like and don't like. Wether it is the food I eat, the people I know, the type of dog in my life, the car I drive, or the fact that I don't drink much alcohol because it makes me "stupid!" I would have to say that at the age of 50 years, I know myself pretty well. "And" I like me.
