As long as you know that you will be safe (from STD's) then you shouldn't go without other protection. However if you do know that you are safe then you should wait a full month before you stop using other protection. My doctor told me that there is always a chance in that first month of taking the pill that you can get pregnant. Your body has to get used to it and it will take a full cycle for that to happen.
Good Luck To You :)

The pill is not 100% full proof, you can still get pregnant and you can also get stds while taking the pill. If you are with a serious bf and wont to stop using other forms of protection then only do so after you have both spoken to each other about it.

From the standpoint of pregnancy, read the package insert. Depending on the brand of pill and which cycle day you started it on. you may be protected right away, after 7 days, or not until you've been on it for a full cycle. The package insert will be very specific.
From the standpoint of STDs, it's never OK to stop using other protection. The pill offers 0 protection from STDs.

It is okay to stop using protection IF and ONLY IF, you are with 1 guy, you have both been tested for every std, and have a monogamous relationship. Other than that, than you should ALWAYS wear a condom, STD's are no joke. I am currently on the pill, have been dating my boyfriend for 3 years and have sex with him without any other protection, and I haven't gotten pregnant once, nor do I have any STDs. Sex is something that can change your life, please be responsible, because it is a HUGE responsibility.

well with most birth control pills it is "safe" to stop using other protection one week after taking a pill every day. But remember that just because you are on the pill, doesnt mean that you wont get pregnant. (i got pregnant while on the pill)

If you are on the pill you should still use protection always. The pill only helps prevent pregnancy.
