If it's a minor sprain you should do everything you can to retain mobility now to speed recovery later. Keep weight off your ankle until it's comfortable, but try some simple exercises with your foot off the ground. Sit in a chair with you leg extended. Start by scribing circles in the air with your big toe, both directions. If that is easy and painless, spell the alphabet. Don't do any quick or jerky motions and don't put an weight on it. Repeat these exercises every few hours and you'll be back in the game in no time.

I sprained my ankle a couple of years back and I can tell you what really helped me. I kept it wrapped in an ace bandage and wore an ankle brace for a few days after the initial accident. It doesn't sound like much but it really can help out. Ice works only for the swelling and doesn't do too much for the pain. Hope this helps!

i am sorry i suppose i should know what you mean by rice but i don't .
put your ankle up put ice on it not directly put a cloth between the ice and you . do not walk on it stay off it not even feather weight. ice is about 10 to 15 min at time then off do not attempt to move your foot around even with no weight on it no movement ask someone to go to the druggist and ask the druggist what he suggests for pain med that is OTC.
keep doing all this until you feel no pain when you touch it and have someone else gently touch around the ankle and when it feels all better then go slow and put some use to it but only a little bit at a time and stop if its sore. if not all better or much much better in a few days to a week see the doc .
