i thought it worked on satillites but someone told me it's just like a higher frequency cell phone. Can anyone tell me wihch one is right?

Well I work at the Chevy dealership and On Star is actually what I do. It does work off Satellites.

It is like a Cell phone inplanted into your car. It runs off of 850, 950, 1500 Mgz technology, so that anywhere you drive, you will have contact with any On-Star offical, its like your personal cell phone, but with more frequency power, so that if your lost in the boonies, you should have frequency. However, just because you have onstar in your car, it does not mean you shouldnt bring your cell phone. Always have a cell phone with you at all times in case, for whatever reason, on star does not work.
