I say mainstream rap music has been falling off since '95 (personally, I think the beginning of rap music's decline coincides with the moment Master P came onto the scene). Since then, the mainstream media has been increasingly oversaturated by a lot of cookie-cutter emcees (if we can even call them emcees) and candy rappers who spout garbage because right now, they're the ones bringing their record companies the most money. Some, like me, might be old enough to remember this and some might not be, but back in the late 80's and early to mid 90's there was a lot of talent, variety and substance in rap. You could turn on the radio and hear conscious (as in socially/politically conscious), gangsta, old-school, jazz-infused, comical and storytelling styles of rap back to back in one sitting (or one car trip). THAT is what's sorely lacking in mainstream rap right now - talent, variety and substance. There's nothing to choose from anymore, kinda like going to McDonald's and seeing nothing but fries on the overhead menu.

There are still some good emcees out there who don't fit the "cookie-cutter" mold and have something positive to say, but unfortunately we rarely (if ever) see them in the mainstream media. A lot of the real emcees have been put on the backburner or are stuck in the underground circuit because for the most part, greedy record companies and good ol' Corporate America have flooded the market with whatever "trend du jour" makes them the most money (which, unfortunately, glorifies the negative/controversial). It's sad, but for the most part, neither the record companies nor the rappers do it for the love of the music anymore. It's all about that almighty dollar.

Good thing I was introduced to underground hip hop a few years ago. Otherwise, I'd still be sittin' here with Midnight Marauders on repeat, reminiscing about the good ol' days - lol.

My opinion merely! surely, rap isn't on my record of track. Early on, there became into, (and consistent with possibility nevertheless is) an association with a picture of crime, drugs, alcohol, and regardless of else. you're making point out of songs with actual meaning, not the gangster image all of us to lots have linked with rap. i'm not asserting rock track is absent of those pictures, it is not. Getting shot, stabbed or run down with a motor vehicle does not seem to ensue in the different track genres, with the frequency of the rap artists. i've got self assurance Biggie and Tupac have been there whilst it started, it became into new & they capitalized on it. i ask your self... in the event that they the two got here on the scene in 2006, could they have been as huge as they have been lower back then? Rap made it is run and it is mark in track for, what, 10+ years?? Rap is fading, and could proceed to vanish. I grew up with rock/united states/blues. Rap is merely too citified/city. lower back, merely my opinion. The older i'm getting, the track depicting extra drugs, dying, crime, violence against the tax paying public who prefer sturdy faculties, neighborhoods and parks, etc isn't what i prefer to pay attention!! Attitudes of youngsters transforming into up now have lots extra going against them. the upward thrust of somewhat violent crimes is getting to be further and further problem-unfastened. whilst i became into transforming into up & you pay attention that 3 or 4 human beings have been killed...OH MY GOD!! Who could do this form of outrage? And now, mass shootings in faculties, department shops!!! childrens here this: 8, 10, 15+ human beings getting killed, and that's all they be attentive to. they don't understand the upward thrust in #'s of killings, murders over 20 or 30 years!!! RAP have been given a undesirable RAP, and it may not substitute. First impressions are usually superb, (to coin a word.) (or) you don't get a 2nd possibility to make a time-honored effect!
