A good thing gone bad.... Hot Rod was a great character but when he became Rodimus Prime it was like he was the poor man's Optimus.
Just my thought.

I liked him as Hot Rod more than Rodimus, He came off as too weighed down by his rank, where as Optimus always came off a career soldier who knew what he was doing.
I've always wondered however, In the 1986 movie, was Hot Rod always destined to become the successor, or was he chosen, because he caught the Matrix before Magnus could take it when Optimus Prime expired?

Hot Rod was a well-written character. Unlike most of the other Autobots, he was young and impulsive, but he was also able to think outside the box. Unfortunately, Rodimus was pretty boring, even in the cartoon series. But atleast they didn't make him whiny like Galvatron. What a gyp, Megatron was tons better.
