It works to a point, the butterfly effect pretty much means that there are so many tiny unpredictable variables in any given scenario that you cannot predict every future move (which used to be a goal of physicists)
It dos not however mean that every tiny thing done can greatly change anything, a butterfly beating its wings miles away will at most cause one raindrop to fall a micron off.

There isn't any question as to whether the Butterfly Effect is real. Does anyone in their right mind believe that a small change in initial conditions CANNOT change the final outcome of a system?!

It's just chaos theory and there's no reason to doubt it. It logically flows from the uncertainty principal of quantum mechanics.
