My husband was deployed to Afghanistan last January, so I'm going to be spending the holiday season by myself (my friends and family already have alternative plans). Any ideas how to do Thanksgiving for one?

I've been there! My husband has been deployed 2 of the last 3 thanksgivings/Christmases.

There are several options. You could volunteer. You could treat yourself to a movie (thanksgiving is actually a big day for theaters).

Another option would be to contact your husband's unit commander and ask if they are doing anything for the wives/families of the deployed. I know it is tradition in my husband's unit for the commander's family to open their doors to all singles/deployed family members/people who can't go home. That may be your best bet for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Hang in there. I know how tough this is. Thank you and your husband for giving to our country.

It's not easy to face thanksgiving alone.
You can make sure you have a nice turkey meal, so this way you won't feel left out. Be thankful for what you have, pray for your husband to be safe.

Check your local church to see if they have any Holiday events.
If not you can contact the pastor and see if you want to arrange some kind of events to help you and others.

During the holiday season there are far lonelier people on the streets, can we be part of an organization that can help these people? Don't do this alone though...

Chat with your friends over the phone and your husband.
on Thanksgiving day.

Peace

I truthfully have continuously enjoyed the thank you music from "Godspell" (the musical), All solid presents. I truthfully have sung this solo in many church homes for Thanksgiving and different gratitude centers and it has continuously been properly won.

Well you defiently wouldnt need a turkey! So I would suggest if were still going to cook, a cornish hen and just smaller portions of the rest of the stuff. You could also volunteer at a shelter and help feed the homeless.

Sounds to me like you are really feeling the loneliness of your self right now. rather than giving in to 'those' temptations you are facing right now please go volunteer your services to a noteworthy purpose, such as a soup kitchen, a hospital ward for children etc. etc. making your Thanksgiving day a day of truly "Giving".
I know God will give you back a hundred fold for this.

Volunteering isn't a bad idea at all - it's a good way to not feel alone by submerging yourself in a place where people need help. You can also, if you like to cook, find a recipe you've been dying to try. Or you can take the day for yourself and treat yourself nicely - take a nice bath, eat some healthy food, maybe take a nap, read a book, etc.

But. I also think that you could do both volunteer AND pamper yourself.

It is going to be though. Try to find someone you can be with during. You could always volunteer to help feed the homeless, you wouldn't be alone and would feel good.
