Does anyone know what kind of jobs are out there for people with English degrees?
I know you would need a Masters to teach, which is not what I want to do anyway, but overall other than teach, what is it good for?

My daughter has a BA in English. She is an Account Executive for a staffing firm that specializes in legal occupations. A friend who was an English major is a probation officer - which requires writing reports. Many employers love English majors because obviously they are able to read, write, and think. Other occupations for English majors include public relations, human resources, law, editor, writer.

I have an English degree and work as a proposal writer. My company hires English majors to write, edit and do research. There are lots of opportunities in corporate America for English majors.

Law might be a good field.
And research another. As for research, consider becoming an on-line research person subscribing to Nexus and Lexus and some others to find those things, many obscure, that someone/somewhere will want to know. This would be fun, you could do it from home, and you will learn a bunch of things that could lead almost anywhere.
