There are certain natural supplements that you could try with her that you may find do help her,... but I would not expect to see results immediately. You would want to give it probably 1 to 2 weeks of daily intake before you could assess if it is making a difference. ... One, which is an excellent supplement especially for the elderly is "Siberian Ginseng". ..... You can obtain this in a number of different forms. One would be as a powder in capsule form, and I would double the recommended daily dosage. .... This can also be obtained in a concentrated dark syrup or thick liquid form,.. although this is likely more difficult to find in the states unless you have access to the likes of "China Town" in Manhattan, N.Y., where you should be able to find high quality ginseng in all forms. .... The liquid can be dissolved in warm water and drunk daily as a tea.
Another natural supplement that may prove helpful for your mother would be "Reishi Mushroom". .. This can be obtained in capsule form at a health food or vitamin supplement store and could be taken in conjunction with the ginseng.
...And one more that would be an excellent addition to this regimen is the "antioxidant" .. "Grape Seed Extract"
I also would recommend her taking the "sublingual B-12" vitamin supplement. That is another good one to add to this regimen.
... I would also strongly recommend that your mother avoid eating sugar. It will only serve to weaken her adrenal glands, which are extremely crucial to ones root life force.

Have you tried any energy drinks? The better ones may contain various B vitamins (often including B-12), 2 or 3 amino acids and some caffeine. You may also find some drinks that contain DMAE, ALCAR, enzymes, adaptogenic herbs (such as ginseng), or other ingredients that improve blood flow in the brain.
These drinks are best taken in the morning or the early afternoon on an empty stomach. In the absence of other (competing) protein, the amino acids in the energy drink will be much more effective.
There are many products that are much better than Red Bull. My current favorites are 5-hour ENERGY (5hourenergy.com), ProEndorphin (Nutraceutics), Focus XT (by SNS), and XS (XSgear.com).
Note that these products usually contain various levels of caffeine. Focus XT contains fairly high levels (200 mg) while ProEndorphin contains only 35mg per serving (from Kola nut). XS is available in both caffeinated & decaf versions.
Not sure how effective the decaf products are, but they may be worth considering if caffeine tolerance is an issue. They also may be worth using if you need a non-caffeinated boost in the evening (or late in the afternoon).

nursing homes used to give amphetamines to the elderly
just to get normal activity ,but the abuse of others changed that
now although Dr.'s have aderal and ritalin , and I would confer with a physician who specializes in geriatrics,.food supplements at that age might be too mild also you could try B-12 and a vegetarian diet meats tend to cause some sluggishness and are hard to digest in comparison
