do you mean great or popular?

A great work of art could be anything man-made that you are drawn to and like without even knowing why! Usually done with skills most people dont have! Most appeal to the majority of people and still impress people long after the Artist has passed away!
A popular artist is like a popular singer, They come and go! They may introduce something new and use different mediums to create their art.
Some so called Artists Given a good sales technique can make you think a cow chopped in half or an unmade bed is great art! It isn't - It is just a cow chopped in half and an unmade bed! I see nothing artistic in either.

A critic, one who can't, will decide if it is a great piece of art. it has happened through the ages, groups of people deciding on others talents.
Art is always in the eye of the beholder, so choose something that always appeals to you and fits in with your lifestyle.
Also, buy buy originals rather that copies - you never know.

like the man said; ""it is in the eye of the beholder"", each individual makes up his own mind about what makes a great piece of art work.
to me, any piece of work that holds my attention and moves me emotionally, could be a great piece of art work. this includes old as well as new, known or unknown. if it moves me, then i accept it as art.

There is art all around us. One could compare life to one large piece of artwork.

Art as we know it is a subjective topic, in that it is a matter of opinion. If an artist can get enough hype up about what they create, it becomes art. It's more about convincing people to see something as art than creating it based on the fundamentals of creation.

To me something that catches not only my eye but also my imagination. Art has to take me some where else other than where I am at that present time.It has to say something to me and what I would not be able to tell you as each piece says something different.
