The statement is: "This too shall pass"

Can this be refuted? Doesn't eveything pass away eventually? Looking for ideas. Just curious.

Thanks:))

The nature of the world, and all of existence, from a scientific standpoint, is that everything will fade away and die sooner or later. Many religions have, corporations, ideals, laws, cultures, species, and all other sort. The things we have currently that we think won't ever go away will, at some point, be overthrown and left in the dust.

"Dust in the wind. All we are is dust in the wind"

The problem with this statement is that there can be two possible definitions of "pass"

1)one "pass" could mean, "to happen"
(thus the phrase This too shall happen)

2)another "pass" could mean to have happened in the past or be in the past, thus the phrase "This too had happened"

3) the other "pass" could mean to die.

If you take the first definition, then yes, this can be refuted. Not everything has to happen. In a bizzare chain of events, something could h appen and that other designed happening might not happen.
Thus yes, using the first definition, "this too shall pass" could be changed IF this statement is not some sort of predictor or some sort.

If using the second definition, then no, it cannot be refuted. If it happened in the past, then no, you can't change it.

(for the third definition) What do you mean by "everything pass away eventually?" I think that in this question, you are looking at the smaller box and seeing that pass refers to something living and passing away. Well, in saying this, you are not being specific. In saying everything, it even means inanimate/abstract or anything else must pass sometime. Well, what about true love? Will true love pass away? Will religion ever pass away? IN saying everything, that is being absolute, which is not totally ture.

Therefore, in the way you ask your questions, your statement can be refuted to a ertain extent.

no, i don't think it can be...it's true..the only thing permanent in this world is change. things happen because of a reason, and when that reason no longer exists, they pass away. people come into our life for a reason, some to stay forever and some for a short time, because we had to meet them or learn something from them. nothing lasts forever...whether it's happiness, sorrow, or despair. as the world changes around us, we change ourselves over time..we learn and grow, and become better (or worse).

when we say this too shall pass in time of struggle, it gives us hope, but if applied when things are going fine it can plunge us into doubting our happiness. 'this too shall pass' does not mean that things always turn around a whole 360 degrees. i take this statement to mean that things will always get better, there is always a chance of adding something more to what we already have.:))

"This too shall pass". Simply means that this world shall pass and the spiritual world shall come. the seal on the left side of the dollar bill under the eagle. Novus Ordo Seclorum, mean New order of the ages, the one government known as the theo-democracy under Christ to come, for 1,000 years of peace. Than this freakin world will turn into a crystal. simple.

It is not so much the morbid notion that everything passes away but that everything changes and is in a kind of perpetual state of flux. This is considered a great and essential Buddhist truth!

"Change is constant" can also be said "everything passes away eventually". Of course, even if true generally, this statement seems to be false about itself; the tendecy to chage may ever change. If everything is always changing, you still have that word always.

All things will pass, the good the bad and the ugly

In my opinion, all things don't "pass away" but simply transform into other entities.

Case in point: solid ice to liquid water to gaseous air.
