The last time I answered this question Yahoo removed my answer. So lets see if they delete this answer.

Passwords can be reset using a third party disc. The third party disc uses a version of Linux (I've never seen one using Xp).

Enter "forgot administrator password" in your favourite search engine. You will get lots of hits. Look for a site that allows you to download the ISO image and burn on to CD. Set the target computer to boot from CD.

A word of warning: Resetting passwords can have unforseen consequences, and should only be done if there is no other option.

Log in as any person you want then move to begin -->Run and style in manage userpasswords2 then hit input. A window will open enabling you to pick the Administrator account and reset the password from there. There isn't plenty of safeguard in Windows XP Professional whilst you recognise matters like that.

You will need to reboot (without reboot not possible)the computer in safemode and use administrator as username and don't type in password and go into User Accounts from comtrol Panel and select your user name and change the password or account lavel to administrator.

I hope this helps.
