PS3 is coming out next week. I heard in the news that it will cost at least $425 and some people say that it's only disadvantage is the price tag. I'm 13 years old, and like some other teenagers, I REALLY want to get the PS3, but the price tag bothers me. I asked my mom if she could buy it for me, I told her the price, and she said, "In time, son.". Well those really weren't details but what do u suggest?

I heard that both have great games, but the PS3 has this HD DVD thing, making it more expensive. So.... yeah.

I also heard that you can connect the PSP to the PS3 as a controller, I think.

Oh Yeah, and the XBOX 360 has freezing, overheating, etc. problems, too. Seems like the 360 has more disadvantages than the PS3.

well i hear that u cant borrow or rent ps3 games cause for starters u have to install them on the hard drive (which i think is totally stupid) plus Sony wants all the games to be registered online. Before a game is played, the game and the ps3 numbers will be verified. Plus the stupid bluray runied the PS console series. The game cases are almost squares and the top is all blue with the bluray insignia on it. Plus i work at futureshop, and the price is around $679 Canadian for the 60GB and $589 for the 20 GB, compared to the XBOX 360 bundle which is the actual console + 2 games for $500 canadian. I personally would go for the ps3 too, but unless the price stoops LOW, i doubt ill be getting it. O btw, i hear u can play ur ps3 games on ur ps2 with some wierd adapter thingimajigi, but with out the motion sensing tools and the same graphics ( i think it could be false and u have to buy the ps3 to use the adapter as it connects to the ps2 wirelessly). Anyway, the Only reason i might still get it would be RE5, MGS4 and DMC4, the trailers are soo good. Another thing for ps3, it has a blu ray player yet it can also play HD DVDs. At my store the HD DVD + the Blu Ray player together would cost well over $2000 so technically ps3 is a much better system. PS3 can connect to 7 controllers wirelessly ( i dont know what game would require that), and gets free internet like the PSP if you live in a one mile radius of a sony store. But once again, i would wait a little while before getting the ps3, i mean the launch titles arent even that good. So now its just the 360 or the Wii (twilight princess looks really good and so does SSB Brawl). Im not too big of a 360 fan, but then again Gears just came out and i hear its really good. The Wii looks good but its one of those systems that could be really good or really bad. Anyway enjoy what u get.

Technically speaking, the 360 and the PS3 are almost identical. If you consider it an advantage, the PS3 will have a Blu-Ray player while the 360 has an HD-DVD that can be purchased separately. The 360 does have some technical issues. Take it from me: I just had to send mine in a month ago to be fixed. They received it, fixed it, and shipped it back to me all in the same day. I was quite impressed by that. PS3 may also have technical issues. Another thing with the PS3 is if you didn't get in on the limited preorders that some stores were offering, you may not be able to get the PS3 when it launches. There were shortages with the PS2, Xbox 1, and Xbox 360 and there will probably be shortages with this system. It is also not guaranteed that PS3 will get all or any games before the Xbox 360. That is only speculation. The new Grand Theft Auto will release simultaneously for the 360 and the PS3. Considering your age, this may not be a game you will get, but just in case. You may also want to consider exclusives for each system. Xbox has Gears of War which is an awesome looking shoot 'em up and Viva Pinata which is a children's game and now a cartoon. Halo 3 is also a great exclusive for the 360. PS3 will get Metal Gear Solid for sure. Overall, I am an Xbox fan so I am biased anyway. Hopefully I wasn't too one sided for this answer.

The decision comes down to a few factors:
Money, do you need a blu-ray player and exclusive titles.
The Playstation 3 is a great deal IF you want a blu-ray player. If you only want to play games blu-ray won't make much of a difference. The disk is larger but DVD is actually large enough for games using Microsoft's compression schemes for video and textures. Also the speed of blu-ray is debateable. In many cases it's slower than DVD.
The PS3 has a better CPU but the Xbox 360 has a better GPU. Ubisoft when making Assassin's Creed have said that although they need to program differentlty in the end the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions look the same. Other devs have said the same thing. Architecturally they are very different but both are very capable.
Both systems will have less exclusive franchises due to the rising costs of game development. An example of this is in action is Capcom's push into Xbox development and the loss of PS3 exclusive games. Devil May Cry and Metal Gear 4 may be on Xbxo 360 if the companies have their way. They want $$$$. In the case of Metal Gear 4, Kojima(the designer) wants it on PS3 only.
Go with whichever one you "want". If money is tight and you don't want to stress out your mom too bad I'd suggest the 360 Premium. Walmart has a $400 bundle that includes a second controller and Project Gotham Racing. Plus it's going to be next to impossible to get a PS3 this year. Your Mom will go nuts trying to get you one and you'll probably have to wait a while.

I wondered the same thing so I checked out the tech-specs on both of them. From a technical view they are almost identical, I say almost because there are some slight differences but not enough to warrant the price difference. The HD DVD feature your talking about is this new DVD that stores 56 GB per Disk but the draw back is the security features on the PS3 are so tough you can forget about playing bootlegged Games OR DVDs. I'm 31 and the PS3 seems high priced to me. I already have an XBOX 360 and there are a lot of games out for it already so I think I'll just stick with what I have and maybe buy the Nintendo WI. I know that's gonna be way lower in price then PS3.

I already gave this answer to someone else, but I thought it suits this question just as well:
I suggest that you get the 360. Apparently the PS3 controllers do not have a rumble feature, and the motion sensor system they use is useless. A big problem is that if you do not have a HDTV(another ton of money) the graphics look like a PS2 opposed to the 360 that looks great either way. Also the PS3 disks cost more because they are blue-ray this does not increase the appearance but mean they can store more, but game development companies so far do not need this extra space your paying for and at best are only using half that. I got most of this info form 1up.com a very reliable source. Whatever you choose enjoy it.

Get the xbox 360 I have one and no it doesn't freeze up and catch on fire like people say the Xbox 360 has AMZING GRAPHICS, AWESOME GAMES, plays DVDs, Cds, and can hook up to ipods and other mp3 players, longer and more exciteing games, super fast loading time, cheaper, and most of my friends have a Xbox 360s and I have one and we all LOVE them. They are the kewlest things in the world. My mom even asked me if I wanted her to get me a PS3 for Christmad this year and i said NO. The PS3 sound as if they are the worst and most crappyest system EVER. And everyone already know that the xbox 360s FREAKING ROCK. Oh and I'm 14 years old and my friends are 13 so most people within are age group like the Xbox 360 WAY more then the PS3.

dude, im 19 and i've waited for the ps3 to come out for quite some time. I have to say ps3 hands down. The fact that it has blu-ray capabilities is enough as it is. I'm not sure if you familiar but blu-ray will replace dvd's. It's like hd dvd, as i see you found out. The ps3 will be the cheapest blu ray player to come out for quite a while. I don't know if you go on ebay, but I just read the most bias comparision on the xbox360 to ps3. If someone wants to talk about current games Yah, right now xbox360 will have better games. More games that is. If they bring up the point that theres more rpg's ps3 already has at least 2 or 3 rpg's coming out. The fact that you can play PSP games on it is just one more reason. The price..yah its expensive..plus the fact that your going to need an hd tv for the full effect could seem overwhelming. Its like 499$ for 20GB harddrive and the 599$ one comes out with the 60GB. The first 500,000 ps3's sold will come with talledaga nights. The will ferrell racecar movie. To sum it up..ps3 hands down.

im thinkin the 360 because it has better games only for xbox like halo 3, fable 2, and gears of war. halo is gonna be awesome gears already is awesome and fable will probably be great too. but you know ps3 will have metal gear solid 4, devil may cry 4, and resistance. the graphics pretty much look the same in HD so its a preference of games and right now im goin with xbox

I'd have to say PS3 just because I'm a hardcore Playstation fan. I think the price will drop (come on prices on the PS2 have dropped ridiculously since it hit shelves) and all the kinks will be figured/worked out. I also don't think a lot of the rumors about it being so complicated of a system are true....I'd wait and read up on it after it comes out, but I'll bet it'll blow the XBOX out of the water......
