One child policy in ways is horrible because if a woman is impregnated with a second baby the government aborts the baby. Also since most Chinese live in villages they prefer boys over girls. This causes a lot of parents to abandon their first child if it is a girl so they can have a boy. In many ways one child policy is inhumane but without it the Chinese population would continue to sky rocket. With too many people Chinese economy would decrease because it wouldn't be able to provide for all its people. There might not be enough food for everyone and many would starve.

China has a population of 1.3 billion. When the one-child policy was introduced, the government set a target population of 1.2 billion by the year 2000.China’s one child policy is described as arguably the greatest bioethical atrocity on the globe. Since 1970s, the Chinese government has conducted this programme of population control through forced abortion, infanticide, forced sterilization, forced use of birth control, abandonment of children and deliberate killing of orphans etc.
In 1979, according to Chinese vice Minister Chen Muhua the one child policy is policy of encouragement and punishment of motherhood but, encouragement will be implemented i.e. parents having one child will be encouraged, and strict measures will be enforced to control the birth of two or more babies. He also said that everything should be done to insure that the natural population growth rate in China falls to zero by 2000. In September 2002, the Chinese regime passed the Law on Population and Birth Planning. Misleading claims regarding the law are being put forward by defenders of the one-child policy, but the law's true purpose is to uphold a single-child policy for married couples and to endorse force by reclassifying it as law enforcement. Defenders of the policy also claim that dictatorial practices are simply abuses.
There was a high sex ratio in China in the 1930s and 1940s, mostly resulting from infanticide of girls. The shortage of women may have increased mental health problems and socially disturbing behavior among men because of which some men are unable to marry and have a family. The scarcity of females has resulted in kidnapping of women for marriage and increased numbers of commercial sex workers, with a potential resultant rise in human immunodeficiency virus infection and other sexually transmitted diseases like HIV aids. There are fears that these consequences could be a real threat to China's stability in the future. Therefore, it is possible, that even in the absence of the one child policy, sex-selective abortion would continue, although it would possibly be less common. The only solution to this problem will come only with a change in attitude towards female children. The rapid decrease in the birth rate, combined with the improving life expectancy, has led to an increasing percentage of elderly people and an increase in the ratio between elderly people and young children. In China, the percentage of the population over the age of 65 years was 5 percent in 1982 and now it is at 7.5 percent but it is predictable to rise more than 15 percent by 2025.
The Chinese Government is offering positive reinforcements for families that only have one child:
Rates in reproduction have drastically dropped since the policy became enforced
At the rate China was going, they weren’t going to be able to sustain their own population for very long, its good that they decided to solve their own problem.
With too many people Chinese economy would decrease because it wouldn't be able to provide for all its people. There might not be enough food for everyone and many would starve.

I have heard of that and have come to this conclusion. The families will abort all the girls and only give birth to boys to carry the name. The girls that are born have a high rate of kidnapping. this is a situation witch China is aware of and they are allowing some families to have 2 children. Sorry I have no source, i watch so many programs on the Discovery Channel, Public TV and the BBS.

State control of citizens reproductive lives. But a definite decline in the birth rate as a society. A challenge to the "must have a boy" culture.

Thousands of female children who were abandoned by their families and are now living in orphanages that are little better then cattle stalls. All because, if your family can only have one child, they want a son.

Also, lots of girl children murdered at birth to leave room for the one son that all Chinese families want.

That was the best thing they could to control their population and world population. Chinas population of about one billion people is about 18% of the world population. It would also help their economy as their government are cartering for less people than the case would have been, if they were to have many children.

I think it is negative towards humanity as they say they want to get rid of the girl babies by adopting them out or just leaving them on the road to live or die. I heard this on the news.

population control if you would consider that a positive(that's a whole other can of worms)and the most significant negative would be the murdering of little girls
