Assume you are a member of Congress and now must cast the deciding vote on a very controversial issue. If you knew that your personal position was contrary to that held by the majority of the people in your district, would you vote in accord with your beliefs or their interests?

I would vote the way that I felt was right. That's the point of having representatives. If we just wanted to do what the constituents want every time, we'd have a direct democracy. Sometimes the constituents don't have all the facts and don't know what's best.

Your question makes no sense, because I would not have personal beliefs that were not in the best interest of the people in my district. They might think differently about the issue than I do, but I'd have access to more information than they, and I'd vote in their interest, even if they didn't realize it.

As a member of Congress, you are expected to vote on the behalf of your constituents. If you don't, you can't be expected to hold your position come election time.

I would vote for what I thought was best. Then I would have to face the voters and explain to them why I voted the way I did. If I didn't get reelected so be it. I voted the way I thought was best at the time.

wow, great question. I would have to vote according to my constituents because they elected me for that reason and since my ability to see the future is nonexistent, I would have to hope they were correct, and not me. My being elected is to serve them and their interests and I cannot be sure of that but can be sure of how they want me to vote.

I would do the same thing congress does now...vote the way of the lobbyist that contributes the most cash to my reelection fund.

I would vote in accord with thier interests, because Iam
their Representative or Senator, and you're committing Political suicide if you don't.

I would vote based on my personal position... if I ran for the position and won, they already know my stance on things. They elected me, so why not?

Beliefs. Even if it means standing alone in them.
