My doctor recently told me my son needed 20oz/day (this was during a rotavirus, he is healthy now). He's 19.6oz and 29". Problem is, he really doesn't drink as much as usual. He'll guzzle about 5 oz around 7am, won't take a bottle at lunch (tried water, juice, formula..everything), and will finally drink more (about 5 oz) around 2pm, then 4-5oz at bedtime (he used to drink 8 oz!). BUT he is eating a good amount, rice cereal, stage 2 and 3 foods, fruits, meats etc...

Is he drinking enough???

My daughter doesn't drink enough formula either. But she has 3 meals of solids a day, and she is happy and active, and developmentally she's perfect. I wouldn't worry about your daughter unless your doctor says she's underweight and malnourished. Sounds like everything you're doing is perfectly fine.

The best way to find out is to look at his stools and how often hes passing them. If they are on the hard side then he needs more water, especially if he looks like he's in pain when hes going! Sounds disgusting I know but its what you've got to do as a mother.

Is he urinating every couple hours? If so, he's fine. It is time to introduce a sippy cup so he may take in more fluids by cup.

Does his mouth look dry? If it doesn't then he is drinking enough.
