FORD MOTOR CO, Where NOT the first company to mass produce cars. They were the first company to standardise the mass production LINE. Various steam vehicles, back to horse draw carriages where considered as mass produced as parts where made 'en mass' away from the main assembly area then brought to a central area where the same product would be assembled.
Its hard to assign which company was first as its a judgement call as to when 'mass' can be used to describe production. If they built 2, 20 or 200 identical models where do you draw the boundaries although it is critical that they are assembling identical 'units' (engines, chassis etc. not colour).

Henry J Ford and the car was the Model T Ford. His vision was of an affordable car for every man.
Later Volks Wagon aimed at the same with the original Kaefer ( Beetle ) and another German firm called Hannomag built cheap cars on a similar shell as the VW.
