Typically, the instructions they give you is 6 weeks. That should be sufficient to heal enough to change earrings. Start with the small hoops for a day. If your ears aren't sore after the day with the new earrings, then you're all set. If they are, switch back to the first studs for another week or two.

3 months is a sufficient amount of time. Even 1-2 weeks is fine. If your skin is sensitive, make sure you get earrings that won't rust over time and won't irritate or cause infection in your ear. I always used earrings that were sterling silver or gold.

When I had my ears pierced, I kept the same studs in for 8 weeks before changing them, so I guess you can.
