how's that all work? Do you find a place first or do you apply for section 8 first? how do you apply? what are the restrictions?

You need to apply for Section 8 and be approved prior to finding a property. This process can be lengthy, depending on where you are. As mentioned already, some areas have long waiting lists for Section 8.

I would definitely apply first, in IL the section 8 list is 6 years long now. Just go to your local Housing Authority office and when you go to apply they will tell you all about the restrictions and etc.
