Sims 2 Error?

I have the Sims 2. When I run the game a window with a red x pops up. I hit OK. (The window has no words on it. Just the word OK) And nothing else happens. Anyone know why this is happening?

Uninstall Sims 2, then re-install it. Make sure that you download the latest patch from www.sims2.com.

Get a new one.
