I'm looking for a credit card that offers monthly statements broken down by category. (My current credit card send me an annual purchase behavior report once a year, but I'd like to have the info monthly)

Bonus points if it includes comparisons to historic monthly spending.

Lastly, of course, it would be good if it didn't have an annual fee and offer points or money back.

"Mariposa" suggested Quicken. That's an excellent alternative I'll explore, but my first choice would still be to have the credit card company do the work for me. :)

My Providian card breaks down my spending for me. It's up to date and reflects the previous 3 months of purchases.
While Providian was taken over by Washington Mutual, it has kept it's name and can still be found at:

I don't know of a credit card that does a monthly budget report, but Quicken software offers this in form of a PC program.

Having a statement does nothing for you. You need to track the data over time e.g. (year-over-year) to see if you are saving enough. That said, you would use Quicken to set up. You can download your statement each month through Quicken and it can assign categories to each of your spending items.

my Citibank card breaks down my spending to the categories like you asked, (merchandise, restaurants, travel, vehicle services, health care ) but i do not think it will compare month to month. that might be something you could do in excel. no annual fee and reward points for a variety of choices to gift cards to stores, cash back but I'm saving up for the hot air balloon ride anywhere in the county. good luck
