PLEASE do not make fun of those with diagnosed mental illnesses. It is just tacky and cruel.

Ha! That's funny :) That's one of those questions that make you say Hmmm. But actually sexmagnet is right. If someone with multiple personalities tried to attempt suicide then another personality, most likely the gatekeeper personality (the protector) would emerge and stop any plans or actions. However, it is possible that the suicidal personality could commit a symbolic mental suicide and end its existence.

It is obvious that none of you know anything about DID- dissociative identity disorder.
When someone with DID dissociates they are not communicating with other personalities. That is ridiculous hyperbole. Often, they go in and out of cognitive states as they dissociate, kind of like a fog for a little while. They do not talk back and forth with each other like you might have seen in the movies. No, it is not a hostage situation.

regardless if one suffers from multiple personalities or being schizophrenic, as long one threatens to take one's own life is like taking yourself hostage for something that againt's your will of self-preservation.

I have a mental illness and I think it's good to have a laugh about it once in a while. I thought that was cute.

Yes, because they would believe that these people are real and the actual intent would probably be to kill them. Anyway man that's deep, get a bag of Doritos and relax.

Nope, it's an idle threat. One of the stronger personalities would most definately intervene.

No, it's either called a "look the other way" situation or a "dump him/her in the loony bin" situation.
