No, your personel file is their company document, not yours to keep.

I think they can keep them, but you are entitled to a copy of everything in your file. Everything. You should be there when they are copying it to make sure that you get everything and that nothing is "overlooked." You also should have access to your file at anytime so that you can see what's in there, just in case you were not informed of something's entry.

They can and do keep your file. The length depends on the company's policy. Your are not entitled to it when you leave, however, you can request a copy.

In the U.S., I don't know of any law forcing an employer to give up or throw away their records of employees. I doubt that they would ever use them again, unless another agency wanted information from them concerning your employment with them. This they MAY answer, or not, at their discretion. There is no reason for them to just spread this info. around.;-)
